Reading Through The Bible: Number 12
Two special trees!
Genesis 2:10 tells of two trees that God placed in the Garden of Eden; the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Did you know that we will see one of them in Heaven, but not the other? (see Revelation 22:2)
The Tree of Life was given to perpetuate life for the human family. The other one was a sort of temporary “polling booth” where they could exercise their God-given freedom of choice to elect another leader apart from Him. God always gives us freedom to choose!
In clear language the Creator told Adam and Eve that they were not to eat of this tree or they would die. At his first opportunity, Satan, disguised as a serpent, directly contradicted God and stated that they would not die at all, but rather would become like God, knowing good and evil, if they ate it!
Well he was right on one count! The human family certainly found out what evil is! We are surrounded by it today and it has been getting worse every one of my nearly 77 years! This same enemy is still trying to present himself as a champion of freedom and God as a controlling tyrant. It doesn’t take a whole lot of nouse to see where his “freedoms” are leading does it!
On a Roman torture implement 2,000 years ago, Jesus, this same Creator, revealed the truth about whether He is a Tyrant or selfless Saviour, and the cross became another “polling booth” if you like, where we must also exercise our God-given freedom of choice. At this polling booth we get to choose ETERNAL life or death. Here we choose to follow Christ’s selfless lifestyle and spread happiness to those around us, or to keep self on the throne and remain part of the problem. It’s a free choice. You’ll have a great day if you choose Jesus! My choice is made, how about yours?
