Reading Through The Bible: Number 13

Reading Through The Bible: Number 13

August 12, 2016 Barry Satchell Comments 0 Comment

As I browse on the Word of God in Genesis 2 this morning I find the origin of the family and some admonition that the world needs so desperately just now!

As the Creator forms Eve and brings her to Adam to make his life complete, the first family is begun.  Then follows some great advice.  It simply says in verse 24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

Leaving the home where our lives were shaped by loving parents, to start a new family is very important. A married couple needs space to develop the relationship they have promised to share together. The successful joining of two lives into one involves placing self aside and living life to please someone else. God designs that this union is to be so close that it would seem that two people had now become one person.

After 53 years of marriage, I look back and see the many and continuous adjustments we’ve had to make for that to happen, have been all about forgetting about what you want and focusing on what your spouse needs. When both do that, there is a happy and productive family with benefits all round! Above all, be faithful! Love your spouse unselfishly today and you will benefit!
