Reading Through The Bible: Number 23
As you walk with God through your lifetime, you hear many weird and wonderful speculations about what certain passages of Scripture “REALLY mean!” Genesis chapter 6 has been a fertile field from which many of these whacky theories have grown. Maybe we’ll just tackle one of them this morning!
Verse 1 says: “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.”
The term “the sons of God” has been twisted by some, to mean angels or extra-terrestrial beings who came and mixed with the human race, while “the daughters of men” are assumed to be human women.
The simple truth of the matter is that “the sons of God” simply refers to the line of Seth, Adam’s third son who continued to follow the will of God, while “the daughters of men” refers to the female descendants of Cain who chose to leave the presence and the way of God. We find reference to this propensity to slide away from God by evil association, in the book of Jude, where it says: “But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain…” (Jude10 and 11)
Sin has deadly effects on families and nations alike. And as the years went by Cain’s tribe had drifted further and further from God’s design. While Adam had continued to guide his later descendants in the ways of God for nearly 1,000 years!

We are faced with that choice again today; the choice of allegiance. Do we live as our heavenly Father instructs us, or as the world around us tries to press us into its mould. Simple choice with eternal results. Have a great day!
