Reading Through The Bible: Number 48
From my reading, it seems that at least two of Lot’s daughters were lost when God destroyed Sodom. I come to that conclusion this way:
In Genesis 19:8 Lot says: “See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man…” Then at the angels’ instruction, he goes to his family as in Verse 14:
“So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, WHO HAD MARRIED his daughters, and said, ‘Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!’ But to his sons-in-law, he seemed to be joking.”
So these were not the daughters who had “not known a man” but others (the number is not specified) who apparently joined their husbands in treating Lot’s warnings as a joke!
What a sad, sad loss for Lot! No doubt this also explains why he also lost his wife that day! Her heart was still in Sodom. (Some might say: “understandably so because some of her daughters were still there!”)
The takeaway lesson for me this morning is this: God has no grandchildren! Each of us is ultimately answerable to God for our own individual salvation. However, our decisions can be an influence that may cause others to choose to follow Jesus and spend eternity with us and Him.
A sad story with real-life lessons for today.
Have a great day!
