Reading Through The Bible: Number 55
Reading on through the remainder of Genesis 22 this morning, it becomes clear that sometimes God tests His earthly children to ascertain their level of commitment to Him.
As Abraham is about to sacrifice the single most precious thing in his life, the Angel of the LORD says to him: ““Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
Some trials are hard to recognise as “tests from the Lord.” But anything that calls for a decision to do what God has expressly commanded in His holy word, is, in reality, a test! There is a great difference between “believing IN God” and “believing God.” Many believe that God exists but are not concerned about letting Him rule their lives. However, people like Abraham believe God enough to do what He says!
On the way up the mountain, Isaac had asked his father: “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.”
Not only did God provide the animal for Abraham to sacrifice in place of his son, but He also provided the Lamb of God to take away the penalty for your sins and mine. Perhaps the test for us today is, do I really believe that or do I continue to doubt His willingness to forgive my sins and give me the power to overcome the power of temptations that I will face today? He is worthy of our trust my friend!
Have a great day!
