Reading Through The Bible: Number 69
Chapter 26 of Genesis ends by recording a little more insight into the family of Isaac and Rebekah. “When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.” As previously seen, Esau was not a person to be easily instructed in the way of God but polygamy was never God’s plan for His people, neither was intermarriage with the pagan nations around them.
When people have no connection with God it seems ridiculous to them that they should allow anyone else to “meddle” in the affairs of their heart. However, God claims that right in the lives of His people. Esau’s parent’s minds were grieved by His choices, not because they wanted to control him, but because they could see that his pagan wives were drawing his heart further from God and would possibly cost him eternal life.
Are there areas in your life that you are not wanting God to “meddle” in friend? The guidance He gives us is never designed to restrict us, but rather to renew us and empower us to have abundant, fulfilled lives that are a blessing to ourselves and our fellow man! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Have a great day!
