Reading Through The Bible: Number 50

Reading Through The Bible: Number 50

October 2, 2016 Barry Satchell Comments 0 Comment

Wow! This is post number 50 already as we read through the Scriptures together!

Finishing our look at Genesis 19 we are confronted with the story of Lot’s two daughters and their ill-conceived plan to continue on their father’s line by making him drunk and getting pregnant by him. A few points that stand out to me in these final verses are:

  1. These “two daughters who have not known a man” had little knowledge of God’s power to provide for their apparent need to carry on the family line and were no doubt influenced by the immoral society of Sodom.
  2. They both have sons to their father and name them Moab and Ben-Ammi from whom arose the Moabites and Ammonites.
  3. Even though these nations had their beginnings through this incestuous relationship and became enemies of Abraham’s descendants, God was still interested in them as individual people. In fact, it was through the line of a Moabite woman named Ruth, that the Saviour was born! Ruth is one of three women named in the genealogy of Jesus!

How wonderfully reassuring that, no matter where we are born or how twisted our family connections, God sees us as individuals worthy of His attention and blessing as we respond to the Gospel of Grace!
