Reading Through The Bible: Number 59
I love to hear stories of answered prayer that are just too incredible to be coincidences! This morning I’m still pondering a few verses in Exodus 24 and I read there of Abraham’s old servant who has travelled to Haran to find a bride for Abraham’s son Isaac. As he stands beside the well where the girls will soon come to fetch water and he realises that his quest will be like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. So he prays the following prayer:
12 …“O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. 14 Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.” The story continues: “15 AND IT HAPPENED, BEFORE HE HAD FINISHED SPEAKING”
Let me encourage you to read the rest of the story from your Bible after I relate a similar answer to prayer from my own experience. Some stories are just too good to keep to yourself!
The year was 1979. We had lived and worked in South NZ for two years. Julie, our eldest had been in Australia for one year at Avondale college and Vera had taken 2 year-old Andrew and gone to see Julie graduate. The other three girls and I were battling along without them, with 6 weeks to go before we were to return to Sydney. One problem that faced me was that we needed a car until we boarded the plane home, but didn’t want to leave it as a burden for someone else to sell for us.
However since I believe that nothing is too hard for God, I cleaned up the car for sale and then gathered the three girls around me and prayed: “Lord, You know our situation. We need our car until we leave. Would You please send along somebody who will buy it, but not need it for 6 weeks!?”
I parked the car outside on the road, placed a For Sale sign front and back of it, and got halfway back to the house when a lady bipped the horn and beckoned me back! Long, fascinating story short.. after negotiation took place she said: “We’ll take it, but there’s just one problem. Could you hang onto it for 6 weeks?” (And I ended up leading the lady to God in prayer a couple of days later) True story!!
Be encouraged this morning friend! Your heavenly Father knows your real needs and is longing for you to trust Him with everything in your life. He longs for you to expect great things from Him!! There have been many times that I have prayed and it seemed that nothing happened, but because of the many times He promises in His word to hear me… I always know THIS MUCH happened… GOD HEARD MY PRAYER! Because He loves me I know that He will always answer in a way that is best for me! (and you!)
Have a great day.
