Reading Through The Bible: Number 46
As I resume reading in Genesis 19 this morning it seems a daunting task to give even a tiny glimpse of what is recorded there!! The first 11 verses give a clear picture of the sordid activities that the cities of Sodom and Gomorra were given over to, and are a “must read” for Christians today because of what Jesus said in Luke 17:28-30 regarding the state of society when He returns to destroy the wicked and save the righteous.
Sodom and Gomorra were destroyed because God investigated the happenings there and declared “Case closed! Guilty as charged!” It is interesting to note that as Paul warns the Corinthian church members about the sins that will keep people out of heaven he lists the things that were happening in Sodom alongside the sin of COVETOUSNESS:
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10nor thieves, nor COVETOUS, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
I don’t see this as diminishing the sins of the people of Sodom at all, but as a warning to those who neglect the “socially acceptable” sins of today.
Praise God for His clear instructions for living a life that will bear heaven’s investigation!
His Holy Spirit’s help is promised to all who will search the Scriptures to find and obey the will of God. God loves you!
Have a great day!
